REVIEW OF 2ND & 3RD ROUNDS

Tuesday held quite a demanding schedule for the participants of the 34th NATO Chess Championship due to the double round. The 2nd round started at 8.00 am followed by the 3rd at 2.00 pm.

The twists and turns of today’s rounds certainly bode well for a highly competitive Championship. One of the most pleasant surprises is that in the top 8 of the final ranking after the 3rd round we have 4 Greek players with 3 wins in equal games (Rachmanidis, Alexakis, Papasimakopoulos, Pavlidis) while Katerina Pavlidou (Elo 2153) tied with last year’s Champion , German FM Robert Stein (Elo 2409).

The Latvian WGM Dana Reizniece – Ozola also remains on an absolute winning streak, tied with the 4 Greeks, Patrick Emilio Aizpurua (Panama) and Hans – Christoph Andersen (Germany) in 1st place.

At group level, Greece is in 1st place with 12 points, Germany is 2nd with 10.5 points and Latvia is 3rd with 9.5 points.
